MarineTraffic - Ship Tracking App Reviews

A great app

This is a great app to use on a sailboat to complement the AIS information on the chart plotter. This shows all the boats out of range of the Class B transponder. My first request is for some commentary on the types of craft that are large and are "hiding" from AIS. Some military ships appear on Marine Traffic, and some do not. My second suggestion is that you provide an overlay concerning the level of risk of piracy (actual or perceived) in Africa and Asia. On a business trip to Djibouti I saw a lot of ships near the port, which did not appear on Marine Traffic. In a few cases this makes no sense at all - for example the cargo ship is carrying cars and light freight and is visible from far away due to the high deck. However in other cases there is a good reason why boats in Djibouti avoid AIS.

This app used to be great

Living in Key West Florida and working with the cruise ships I would depend on this app on a daily basis. I knew exactly when I had to be at the pier. But in the past few months it works sporadically or not at all. Please get this fixed I really depend on it.

Perfect App For Dungeness Lighthouse Keepers

Finishing up a week on the 5 mile long Dungeness Spit which is the turning point for shipping and all other boats between the Pacific and Seattle and Tacoma. It helped us predict arrivals of ships arriving close to the lighthouse and find out more about them. Hopefully at some point this app will be able to link to a bigger database that will provide more detailed info than just the name and type of the vessel.

Go to for coastal spotters

I have enjoyed using this app for sometime now, not only because my office looks out on a port, and I can monitor vessels coming in and out, but also because I like to follow my parents travels on overseas tour boat adventures, which they do often. Checking locations in nearly-real time is very important to me, and while I know this is information that can be found elsewhere, I do appreciate the interface on this app… Although I believe theres a good deal of room for improvement.

Useful and fun

I use this app all the time to track my friends that crew on yachts and cruise ships. I also use it to see what cruise ships are in specific ports. Living in SFL, its busy on the weekends.

Nice App for telling whos who on the water for Great Lakes viewing, EXCEPT

The BIG negative is the never ending EMAIL ALERTS on your favorite vessels. After clearing ALL options for any type of alerts/notices from the settings, removed all favorite vessels and even asked the support team to help clear the daily 20-30 email alerts. No Such Luck!! Its A Major Issue They Dont Care Much About!! Might remove the app & look elsewhere!

Nice App

Cool app. Lots of information. Good tracking.

Upgraded Unusably

Screens rearranged, usability shot on an app that had been wonderful. The ability to see the info of vessels as enter and exit the San Francisco Bay is now a mess with random map jumps and lost information. I wish I could roll back.

Hate this update

Cant figure how how to look at vessel track line. Absolutely worthless update

I want a refund

The app is not working!!! It does not worth the money not even 0.1$!! How can I get my money back?

Great app

Never had any problems, super accurate and helpful. The best non commercial AIS Information available
